Life Continues

Not a lot going on, and I decided years ago that my journals would not descend into the litany of 'laundry done, dishes done, still working on getting rid of stuff'. That is why the updates are fewer and further between. The above pretty much is what is going on. I am packing 'gorilla boxes' of things to send back, timing it to arrive when I'm there to handle it at the other end. Amazing the amount of thought and energy I'm putting into a 2 week trip back, but that's the way it is. A few things I keep looking at wondering why I'm shlepping them around various countries when I don't use them. Novel thought, huh? So, some things are getting unpacked and given away. The spare room is getting a bit emptier.

I've had a bit of a idealistic setback. I was attempting to lower my meat and dairy consumption. As well as my wheat and sugar consumption. Trouble is, I don't eat much in the way of veggies or fruits. If you are following that, it means that my food intake wasn't much, and cheating was fig newtons and coffee. Amazingly, despite my good intentions in limiting all of the above I was feeling less and less well. So, I'm back to eating meat, still limiting wheat and sugar, eating a lot of nuts and feeling a bit better. Also I'm still losing a bit of weight, which is good. I don't care how much I say 'well, I guess I really do look and feel better at 130' the truth is I would prefer to be below 120. So far the closest I've come is 124 while clothed. I'm not eating to lose weight primarily, but I am enjoying that I'm losing. It keeps me away from the worst sugar. Except fig newtons.

  1. Staying away from sugar and corn products (especially corn syrup)will not only allow you to lose weight but it will allow you to feel better. Keep up the good work.

  2. It is tough for your body to transition from eating meat. I have never eaten meat and when we married, my wife suffered from a couple of problems including vitamin B deficiency. It takes a while for your body to adapt and you must be careful.

  3. I eat chicken or ground beef once in a while, but most of my dinners consist of fish and vegetables. I feel great (for my age).

  4. DD: Yeah, I got some juice the other day and the Tropicana cranberry juice (drink) had HFC. It was all they had at the PX at the time.

Croft: Once I settle in to feeling better I'll cut back on meat again. I don't cook a lot so I'm pretty much limited to what is in the Dining Facility, which means most of the veggies are boiled to death. Not a lot to tempt me.

Gypsy: I'm looking forward to the day I can go shopping and choose what I want to eat from healthy selections. It would also help to have a stove, which I don't.

  5. uh... at your 'size'... getting much below 130 is getting too little for your size kiddo... Just sayin' ;) and moderation in all things right? so... a fig newton once in a while is a not a bad thing.

Me? I just eat what I want. I've no interest in bein' the best lookin' corpse in the cemetery... though, I don't guess that's ever been a danger! :)

  7. Yup, I'm going to go with Brian on this one. I don't think you're short. I'm not sure where I'm getting that but I think I had you pegged around 5'6" or taller which means you need to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 130 to be healthy. If I'm way off the mark, oops, sorry! When we were babieeeessss (in our twenties and early thirties) we could get away with the super skinny business but now there's that pesky bone marrow density business... focus on healthy (yadda yadda yadda I'll shut up now). Missed you!

  8. 0h, and that was 130 or higher depending on your bone structure. Not 130 and lower on a 5'6" frame states the former anorexic...

  9. Something else we have in common, I'm also a recovering anorexic. However, I am 5'2", so I can say that 130 is still a bit chubby for me. :) I'd really like to be back at 110, but I'll settle for shy side of 120. I do miss those size 3 days. I'm a 4 now, but it's the difference between curves and not.
